Solena Estate: Vigneron and Producer of Oregon Pinot Noir from our Estate Vineyard Domaine Danielle Laurent Vigneron and Producer of Oregon Pinot Noir

About Us: The Vineyards

Our wines are hand crafted from select vineyard sites, allowing us to explore the different terroirs of Oregon and Washington. We currently produce Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, and Syrah.

Domaine Danielle Laurent

Our 80-acre estate, Domaine Danielle Laurent, located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA is planted with a diversity of the new Pinot Noir "Dijon" clones from Burgundy including 114, 115, 667, 777, and 828 as well as the traditional Pommard and Swan clones. The vineyard is densely planted at 2400 vines per acre in 1.80meter (6ft) rows and .80meter (2.5ft) spacing between vines and is carefully managed to produce low yielding vines and high quality fruit. The Montalieus are exploring all aspects of viticulture including Biodynamié to encourage a wine truly expressive of this unique site.

In addition to Domaine Danielle Laurent, fruit is sourced from several of the Northwest's finest vineyards including Del Rio and Wooldridge Creek in Southern Oregon and Klipsun Vineyard in Washington.

Hyland Vineyard Estate

In May, 2007, Danielle and Laurent added the spectacular 100-acre Hyland Vineyard to their estate vineyard holdings. The historic Hyland property is one of Oregon's oldest and best known vineyards, contributing to top scoring wines for generations of winemakers. The vineyard, located 5 miles south of McMinnville, was originally planted in 1972, primarily to Pinot Noir with smaller acreage of Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Muller Thurgau.

The predominant soil type is Jory with similar attributes to the red dirt of the acclaimed Dundee Hills AVA The old, own-rooted Pommard, Wadensvil and Coury Pinot Noir vines together with newer plantings in 1989 to Dijon clone 115 will provide a cornucopia of blending options from this unique and exciting site.

Wooldridge Creek

Laurent has worked with the Wooldridge Creek Merlot and Zinfandel since the late 1980's. The hillside vineyards are situated at 1500ft elevation overlooking the Rogue River, near the town of Grants Pass. The vines are densely planted at 1200/acre, in rows running North to South to allow for maximum exposure to the sun. Wooldridge Creek is planted on Josephine soil which has excellent drainage. The vineyard is also known for its warm days and crisp cool nights, a perfect microclimate for these warmer weather varietals.

Del Rio Vineyard

The Del Rio Vineyard is renowned for extraordinary Syrahs and is situated a stone's throw away from Southern Oregon's Rogue River, between the Cascade and Siskiyou mountain ranges. The 1,000ft elevation, soil, rolling hills, alluvial fans, and southern exposure comprise a foundation for great grape growing and wine making. The vineyards are densely planted on phyloxerra-resistant rootstocks and are trained in an upright canopy system. Qualitative irrigation is used to maintain a good balance without looking for higher yields.

Klipsun Vineyard

Owned and operated by Patricia and David Gelles, Klipsun Vineyard is located near Benton City, Washington. The name Klipsun is from the Chinook Indian language for "clipped sun." This vineyard sits on the western slope of Red Mountain at the extreme eastern edge of Yakima Valley, a region granted appellation status in late 2000. Klipsun spans 280 acres of which approximately 120 are planted. The light-colored, high calcium carbonate content of the soils allows for good drainage for varietals such as the Cabernet Sauvignon we source from this renowned site.
